XRPNames makes the XRP Ledger (XRPL) more accessible by replacing long addresses with simple, human-readable .xrpnames. Below, we’ll guide you through setting up your account, purchasing a name, securing your wallet, and exploring future developments.

Getting Started

Begin by creating an account and automatically receiving an XRPL wallet:

  • Create an Account: Visit www.xrpnames.com, sign up with basic info, and log in.
  • Automatic Wallet Creation: You get an XRPL wallet by default. Choose:
    • Custodial: Keys encrypted (AES-256-GCM) & securely stored by us—ideal for beginners.
    • Non-Custodial: Control your own keys—more responsibility, but ultimate freedom.
  • Activate Your Wallet: Fund it to meet the XRPL’s minimum reserve, enabling NFT storage and trustlines.

Purchasing & Using a .xrp Name

Once your wallet is active, it’s time to buy and map your .xrp name:

  • Buy a Name: Find your desired name (e.g. mybrand.xrp) and purchase it. No renewals—own it for life.
  • Map the Name: Assign it to your XRPL address. Sending/receiving XRP becomes as easy as using the name.
  • 6-Month Lock: Once assigned, the name is locked to that wallet for 6 months, ensuring stability.
  • Ecosystem Integration: Currently best in our wallet; future plans aim for universal support across XRPL wallets and apps.

Custodial users enjoy a simple onboarding, while non-custodial users keep full key control. Either way, the name is yours, backed by an XRPL NFT.

Transferring & Reselling Names

You own the NFT, so you can trade it just like any other asset:

  • Full Ownership: Transfer or sell your name’s NFT at will—no permissions needed.
  • Marketplace (Q1 2025): An upcoming marketplace simplifies buying and selling. Initially it will be available only to custodial users, but non-custodial can use a second account for trading.
  • Two-Account Strategy: One non-custodial for maximum control, one custodial for marketplace convenience. Future plans may let you host two wallets in a single account.
